BRITISH ISLES SUMO CHAMPIONSHIPS – BELFAST 2026
The British Isles Sumo Championship is a historic event, representing the dawn of a new era in European Sumo.
For the first time ever, athletes from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland (both North and South) are invited to compete in a one day tournament to determine the champions of the British Isles.

Competitors:
Amateur Sumo is contested in weight classes, as well as mixed weight bouts in the ever exciting "open-weight" category. This competition is suitable for all levels, from sumo newcomers to seasoned veterans.
We also welcome athletes from other grappling disciplines to compete. Whether your background is in judo, wrestling, bjj, strongman or rugby, your skill-set may give you an advantage on the dohyo.
Spectators:
Feel the earth shake, hear the clash, and experience the electric atmosphere as these titans go head-to-head. Bring your friends, your family, and your voice – Belfast is about to roar with sumo spirit!
Note: This event will be used to select both the British and Irish national squads, who will represent their countries at the 2026 European and World Championships.
