On October 17–18, 2026, Baku will host one of the most spectacular events in world sumo — for the first time not only in Azerbaijan, but across the entire region!

WORLD SUMO CHAMPIONSHIP — IN BAKU FOR THE FIRST TIME!

The world’s strongest sumo wrestlers will face each other for the first time on the traditional “dohyo” at the Baku Sports Palace. Witness an extraordinary battle of strength, tradition, technique, and determination! This is more than just a competition — it is a historic first for Azerbaijan and the entire region!

The World Championship for men, women, and juniors will take place over two days. Some of the world’s strongest and most prestigious athletes from around 30 countries will compete for medals. The competitions will be held on a specially prepared earthen “dohyo”, bringing to life the spirit and atmosphere of traditional Japanese sumo.

Every step, every confrontation, and every bout will showcase the grandeur of the centuries-old traditions of sumo.
